Blurb for To Catch a Bad Guy

Janet Maple is convinced that her life could not get any worse: her stellar career at the DA’s office ended with a lay off and her boyfriend of five years told her that he wants to be just friends.
When she lands a job at one of New York’s premier boutique investment firms, Janet begins to hope that her luck is finally turning for the better. Not only is she happy with her new paycheck, but things also seem to be looking up on the personal front, as the company’s handsome attorney expresses keen interest in Janet. However, her euphoria is short-lived, as Janet soon discovers alarming facts about her new employer’s business tactics. When her boss dismisses her suspicions as groundless, Janet finds herself confiding to a cute IT engineer, Dean Snider. The closer she gets to Dean, the more Janet is tempted to break her rule of not dating co-workers, but what she doesn’t realize is that everything she knows about Dean, including his occupation and even his name, is a lie.
Dennis Walker is a top-notch white collar crime investigator who will stop at nothing to put culprits away. When an opportunity for an undercover assignment at one of New York’s premier boutique broker dealers comes up, Dennis jumps at the chance, adopting a persona of geeky IT engineer, Dean Snider. While he may be an ace at his job, years of experience fail him when Dennis meets Janet Maple and finds himself torn between his professional obligations and his personal desires. Will he have to choose between his feelings and duty, or will he find a way to satisfy both?

To Catch a Bad Guy excerpt

Dennis Walker surveyed the contents of his closet and reluctantly pushed away his tailored suits. His current persona as Dean Snider, Chief IT Analyst at Bostoff Securities, did not allow for dapper attire. Instead, Dennis reached for a brown Men’s Wearhouse suit in size forty-two regular, while Dennis normally wore forty long. Next followed a shirt of swamp green Dennis had also acquired at Men’s Wearhouse and a mousy gray tie of fabric so stiff that it virtually would stand if one were to lay the tie down on the side. The one thing Dennis refused to give up was his shoes. His feet, after all, were important – he only had one pair for his entire lifetime, so he reached for a discreet pair of Johnston and Murphy’s. Last came a pair of glasses. The lenses were plain plastic, but their purpose was not to correct Dennis’s twenty-twenty vision, but to obscure the blue-gray of his eyes. It was a known fact that people rarely noted eye color behind corrective lenses. For the finishing touch Dennis slouched his shoulders and stuck out his neck. When he looked in the mirror, the transformation was complete: the suave charmer Dennis Walker had been replaced by a nerdy computer geek.

When Dennis had proposed his candidacy for the assignment at Bostoff Securities, his boss had shrugged him off as too good-looking and too suave. In the past, Dennis had impersonated traders, lawyers, company executives, and even aspiring political candidates. Any time an assignment required balls and charisma, Dennis was the ‘go to’ man. Without a doubt, those had been Dennis’s preferred roles, but the Bostoff investigation promised to be a career-making case, and Dennis was a careerist. Sure, he liked catching the bad guys, but he liked being recognized for his achievements even more. His boss was dead set on assigning the job to Peter Laskin. At thirty-five, Laskin was already balding, and the frames he wore had thick corrective lenses in them. Laskin, a forensic accountant by training, was a genius behind the desk, but his last assignment in the field had been over five years ago, and all it took was one hiccup – one slip – for a case to go down the drain. So Dennis took it upon himself to save the day. Not without much struggle, he abandoned his bi-weekly visits to his favorite hair stylist, opting for a local barbershop instead. He purchased the most horrible suit he could find on the sale rack at Men’s Wearhouse, ordered a pair of glasses with fake lenses in them, and worked on slouching and sticking out his neck. When, two weeks later, Dennis showed up in all his geek glory on the doorstep of his boss’s office, the Bostoff case was his and so was the office pool – to Laskin’s relief, Dennis had won the bet. Now he had to prove that he deserved the assignment.

Reminder, Ms. Astor will be giving away five lovely custom made pieces of jewelry along the tour to random commenters. Be sure to leave your email address with your comment. Here is one more look at the prizes.

BLURB for Laying Down the Law:

Seeking sanctuary could be the hottest mistake she ever made.

The TripleHorn Brand, Book 1

A lifetime ago, Zuri Prescott kicked the dirt off her boots and ditched her small-time small town for the glam city life—and lived to regret it. When she’s framed for a bank job, she lights out for home, seeking refuge with her old high school sweetheart while she figures out her next steps. Only she discovers that the boy she left behind is the last man she should trust.

Sheriff Colt Triplehorn knows trouble when he sees it, especially when it comes in the form of a familiar trespasser, caught naked between an angry bull and her underwear. Sure she’s up to her usual no good, he grants her sanctuary at his ranch—the better to keep an eye on her, and purge her from his system once and for all.

Reconnection is sweet and hot, but the heat can’t hide the truth. When Colt inevitably finds out what Zuri’s running from, it’s too late to put the fire out, and he’s got a career-compromising choice on his hands. Follow the letter of the law, or follow his heart.

Product Warnings: When a sheriff captures the girl who got away, expect revenge so hot it leaves brands on two lonely hearts…

EXCERPT  for Laying Down the Law   Slowly, she stood, barely resisting the urge to cover her important parts with her hands. With her head held high, she walked out of the water and snatched at the shirt, but he drew back his arm at the last second and held it just out of reach.

“Colt, this isn’t funny,” she said tightly.

“No, it’s not. Guess I’m just seein’ how much you want it.”

Zuri dropped her hands at her sides and slowly curled her hands into fists. “What’s it gonna take?”

“I don’t know,” he said, his gaze dropping down her body, lingering over her nipples, which tautened with embarrassing speed, then sweeping downward to the ruff of dark hair cloaking her sex. “How ’bout a kiss? For old time’s sake.”

Zuri sucked in a breath, startled at how quickly the tension coiled around them. “Just a kiss?”

“Yes, ma’am,” he said, his gaze at last meeting hers again, and narrowing.

She stepped closer, knowing she was flirting with fire. They’d never stopped at just one kiss. Not once they’d gotten past the hurdle of her virginity.

Swallowing hard, she pressed a hand against his naked chest to steady her weakening knees and lifted up on her toes. Her mouth grazed briefly over his, and she dropped down and took a step back. “The shirt?”

“Call that a kiss?”

“Colt…don’t…” she said, all bravado seeping away as she noted that anger rather than attraction glinted in his storm-cloud eyes.

“Forget how I like it?” he said softly.

Score With Toni Aleo's Empty Net

Photobucket

As a long time hockey fan (and one time very amateur player) I absolutely love hockey romance stories. I was delighted to be able to read this book of Toni Aleo's, and just wish I had known about these earlier. I will definitely be picking up the rest of these when the budget allows. Although this blog is the last stop on the tour, I will most certainly post the complete itinerary so folks can go back and see other posts with interviews and such.

Blurb

Definition of an Empty Net: When a team pulls the goalie for an extra attacker, desperately seeking a goal.

Audrey Parker was in a horrible place.

She hated her job, her sister was getting married and moving out, but worst of all, she was in love with a total jerk. No matter what she did, every guy she met hurt her. All she wanted was her happily ever after. Her Prince Charming. Her Lucas Brooks! She didn’t know how to change her life but she knew she needed too.
Feeling like she was about to hit rock bottom, Audrey wakes up next to Tate Odder.

Tate Odder had lost everything.

After being brought up from the Assassins’ farm team, the Florida Rays to the Nashville Assassins, Tate hopes he’ll forget everything he has lost. He doesn’t. Each day gets harder to live in a place he doesn’t know. Even being the first rookie goalie to shut out an opposing team three times during the Lord Stanly Cup Finals, he still felt empty. With the loss of his parents and sister still heavy on his heart, Tate isn’t sure how to live like everything is okay.

But when he wakes up beside Audrey Parker, things start to change. She turns his life upside down with her kooky sense of humor and her bright clothing. She is intelligent and beautiful, and for once, he doesn’t feel empty.

Will Audrey be the person to fill the holes in Tate’s heart, making him whole again?

Or will another player ruin everything, leaving him feeling forever like an empty net?

Toni Aleo has written a fast paced and very hot story, with many of my favorites in it. I am a fan of older woman younger man stories, and this certainly fits my tastes there, but it is so much more. The characters in this are all very well crafted, and whether you like them or hate them, they feel like people you could meet on the street or in your neighborhood. I love it in a story when the characters aren't these wonderfully perfect people, and I liked that both Audrey and Tate were, to some extent, flawed: each with secrets they kept from each other, holding back that one small piece of themselves.

Audrey has some serious self esteem issues early in this book, and I enjoyed watching as she slowly came to realize that she had worth and value, and didn't have to just 'settle' for what Levi was offering. I loved watching as she blossomed in her relationship with Tate, even if I did want to reach out and shake her once or twice. I think what I liked most about Audrey was her zest for life, and her determination to live life to the fullest, although it took her a bit of time to get there. When she, finally, reaches out to take charge of all the aspects of her life and make the changes that will bring her joy, I was delighted.

Tate is such a great character, patient and caring, and giving Audrey the time to learn what she really wants, and I loved him for being willing to be 'just friends' while she was sorting through her issues. I was a bit disappointed that he didn't feel he could share his secrets with Audrey, especially after everything else that they shared. And I loved his patience, and sense of humor, showing Audrey that age doesn't have to be a factor when two people love each other.

Of course, there is some screaming hot sex and s bit of danger in here as well, and there were times when this one brought a few tears to my eyes. But every time I'd tear up, this story would turn a corner and make me giggle out loud at the antics of these two. Once these two finally got comfortable with each other, the sarcasm and banter was a delight. Did I see the big scene with Levi coming? No, but it did become a pivotal point in the rest of the book, and it made the rest of this one very poignant and romantic. There are a couple of very surprising twists here, and I did not see one of them coming, but it was such a terrific turn of events.

I highly recommend this to any romantic sports lover out there, but do not read near any ice rink, as it will definitely melt the skating surface.

The Soul Within Super Book Blast

Today My Odd Little World is one stop on Nancy Adams' Blurb Blitz Tour for her release from Total-e-Bound, The Soul Within. This is a Paranormal Erotic Romance, and the author will give one random commenter a $20 GC to either Amazon or Total-e-bound, commenter's choice. Be sure to leave your email address when you comment.

Nancy’s addiction for a good trash novel began in her late-teens when her grandmother gave her a bag of Harlequin Romance books. She was hooked and spent the next few years lurking in the dark corners of used bookstores searching for her next fix. Until, one marriage and two kids later, her own ideas had her jumping up at 3 am (much to her husband’s annoyance) and typing them into her laptop. Beside her husband and children, Nancy has three passions, rearranging furniture, buying bed linens and, of course, writing. Nancy lives in Eastern Ontario with her family and two over sized lap dogs.

Blurb for The Soul Within

Alex’s body is in a coma. His soul, however, is not. Desperate to become whole, he must first convince stubborn beauty Evening Sinclair that he is not dead.

For generations, the Sinclairs have been healers. Using a gentle touch to heal the body and a soothing word to heal the soul, Evening Sinclair is no different. Yet despite her secret abilities, Eve has a somewhat normal existence. She enjoys her small physiotherapy practice, dotes on her eight-year-old daughter and occasionally helps souls get back into their bodies-that is until Alex, with his brooding good looks and glowing eyes, appears in her kitchen.

Alex is desperate to get back into his body-two innocent lives depend on it. His only obstacle is Eve and her stubborn fear. Unfortunately for Eve, Alex is ruthless and just as stubborn. He will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. He will not 'go away' and no matter how much Eve tortures him with her lush body and perfect mouth, he will not change his mind. Eve will merge him, and if it takes him haunting her day and night, she will merge him back with a body-any body.
Excerpt for The Soul Within

“Go. Please,” she implored again. The look on her face caused him to frown. Not because she had recited those words, yet again, to him but because he was actually considering giving her what she wanted and leaving her alone. He wished he could give her that, but he wouldn’t. Besides, he didn’t like it when people lied to him and she was lying. She was capable of putting him back into his body—he read it on her face, in the movement of her hands and body.

The Guardian Project had spent long hours and millions of dollars teaching their soldiers how to read and interrupt body language. After all, if the people he hunted were on his kill list, they’d been good enough to avoid traditional police and military forces and he had to be better in order to stop them.

Deep in his gut he knew there was more—she wasn’t telling him the whole truth. Shit she wasn’t really telling him anything. It didn’t matter—he would not walk away just because Eve was scared. He would not let Miles kill Jillian. She and her baby would live.

He shook his head. “No.”

She closed her eyes and drew a deep breath. “I won’t help you.”

“Yes you will.” He took a step closer to her. “And I’m going to haunt you until you give me what I want.”

“Haunt me.” Her eyes grew wide as a shiver shook her from head to toe.

“Mmm.” He winked. “I’m not leaving your side until you put me back in my body.”

Heavy footsteps echoed on the front porch.

“No,” she whispered, her eyebrows pressed together. “I won’t help you.”

 “Yes. You. Will.”

Now, doesn’t this one sound intriguing? I can’t wait to read more of it.

The Heat is On!!! Smutketeers and Down Under Divas Do It Hotter!!!

Now for a bit of a change up. Instead of individual authors, the rest of this week is devoted to Author Groups, and no post about Scorching Hot romance would be complete without the Smutketeers and the Down Under Divas. Between these two groups, they heat up both hemispheres with their steamy works.

To start off our first day of Author Group Bloggers we are opening up with The Smutketeers and the Down Under Divas. We have highlighted three out of the four authors from each group already, so now we get to introducing you to the rest of them. So if you’re ready and willing let’s go have some fun and get…

Super Blast for Heroes Live Forever

Today is a book blast for Chris Karlsen's Heroes Live Forever, a Paranormal Romance. It is one day only at lots of blogs, and I will post links at the end of the post for more chances to win. What do you win, you ask cheekily?? Well, Chris will be giving a digital copy of her thriller "Golden chariot" to one random commenter at each stop, and a $50 Amazon card to one randomly chosen commenter on the tour. So be sure to leave your email with your comment. Now, for a bit about Chris Karlsen, and her book, Heroes Live Forever.

I was born and raised in Chicago. My father was a history professor and my mother was, and is, a voracious reader. I grew up with a love of history and books.

My parents also love traveling, a passion they passed onto me. I wanted to see the places I read about, see the land and monuments from the time periods that fascinated me. I’ve had the good fortune to travel extensively throughout Europe, the Near East, and North Africa.

I am a retired police detective. I spent twenty-five years in law enforcement with two different agencies. My desire to write came in my early teens. After I retired, I decided to pursue that dream.

I currently live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, four rescue dogs and a rescue horse.

Blurb for Heroes Live Forever:

Elinor Hawthorne has inherited a house haunted by the ghosts of two medieval knights, Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard. Basil is the man of her dreams, her knight in shining armor. She falls in love with him and he with her. Basil soon realizes she needs to live a normal life, a happy life with a mortal.

A lifetime later fate intervenes. Basil, still in love with Elinor, is told her spirit lives on in a young woman and he is given another chance at life to find her.

Excerpt for Heroes Live Forever:

He turned her around and untied the laces of her dress. His fingers lingered at each sliver of exposed skin the open laces left. The gown fell away from her shoulders and rough palms eased the sleeves down, freeing the arms. He inched the dress over hips, unwrapping her like a gift, the silk pillowing at her feet like a bronze cloud.

And, as promised, the links to the tour stops.

Forever In Lingerie (Bare Naked Designs Book 1)

How far would you go to hold on to forever?

Martina Jackson spent the last two years running from her past. Through the practice of Holistic Medicine she has meticulously transformed into a self-fulfilled woman, with one tiny exception…hot, steamy sex with no strings.

While she waits for the job offer of a lifetime, why not quench her sexual desires with an eager man willing to push her to the limit? What she doesn’t plan for is, the fling is exactly what she’s been running from.

Rob Taylor has been waiting his whole life to find the woman he can call forever. He didn’t expect to find her in his parents' living room wearing nothing but white lace and stockings. When he overhears her discussing her secret sexual fantasies, Rob decides to give her what she’s been missing.

As they play out each fantasy he connects with Martina on a deeper level, confirming what he knew the very first moment he heard her voice…that she is the one he’s been waiting for.

Content warning; explicit sex, ménage and the use of Holistic Medicine as foreplay.

Excerpt:

Rob entered his parents’ front foyer with his best friend trailing behind. He was about to turn the corner when a tiny voice drifted from the living room.

“Hot, steamy sex with no strings.”

He stopped short. Aleks bumped into him from behind.

“Dude, what the…”

Rob brought his finger up to his lips, his eyes motioning to the other room where giggles and screams filled the air.

“Didn’t peg her as the slutty type, did you?” That was Amie talking.

“It’s not slutty.” Rob heard his sister Carrie come to the defense of an unidentified woman. That was a relief. Walking in to hear his sister talk about casual sex would not be the best welcome.

He heard Carrie continue. “What exactly does this hot and steamy affair entail?”

“I was never popular with the boys,” the sultry voice explained. “In high school I was quiet. In university other things took precedence and so here I am. I’m creeping up on thirty years old, and I have never been with two men at once.”

Aleks grabbed his chest. “This is the girl of my dreams. Who is she?”

“I don’t know.” Rob pumped his hand up and down trying to get Aleks to stop talking. It wasn’t every day that you walked in on a woman saying she wanted to be with two men.

“Martina, that doesn’t mean your life is lacking. I haven’t been with two men.” Rob cringed. He shouldn’t be listening to his sister talk about sex.

“I’m sorry, Carrie, I didn’t mean it that way. I just... I just want to know what it’s like. I want to know what it feels like to have a man take charge.”

“You want a little bondage play?” Leave it to Amie to get into the kinky stuff.

“Not that serious but maybe. Tie me up, bend me over, and make me your slave.”

Rob’s jeans got tighter by the second. Aleks was practically piggy-backed against his body in order to better hear the conversation, and Rob swore he felt…

He turned around quickly. “Keep your johnson away from me.”

“Oh. My bad.” Aleks backed away. “This is so hot. Are you hearing this?”

“Of course I can hear. Maybe we shouldn’t listen anymore.”

“Are you kidding?” Aleks motioned to Rob’s very noticeable bulge. “You’re just as turned on as me.”

“Enough!” Rob turned around, slightly embarrassed. “No more penis talk. Just keep your thing away from my body.”

“Believe me, I’d rather be listening to that girl. I do not want to talk about your boys.”

They both turned back to catch the rest of the conversation.

“I’ve had sex before but not good sex.” Rob felt her--Martina’s--voice deep in his gut. “I’ve never had a man be there...for me. Make my pleasure number one. I’ve never had a man take charge, catch me off guard. You know...a throw down.”

“Throw down?” Rob heard his sister interrupt.

“Yeah. When it’s passionate, intense, rip your clothes off, can’t have enough of you, I want you right here, right now,” Amie rambled. “The best kind of sex.”

“You would know, wouldn’t you?” Rob could hear the sarcasm in his sister’s voice. He always hoped Carrie was naive when it came to sex, but with a friend like Amie, not a chance.

“Shut it, Care.” Rob heard the clinking of ice in a glass as Amie asked, “How are you going to go about getting this sex, Marty?”

“I don’t know, but I’m sure there’s some guy out there willing to make my fantasies come true.”

Rob turned to Aleks, unsure of what to say.

“That man is you.”

Now I really need to get this book. Great tease excerpt.
