Switching Gears with Megan Slayer

I know I usually do an interesting and funny post when Megan (or her alter ego) visit here, but today is just a Super Book Blast, so no interview, blog post this time. I do have a blurb and excerpt of Megan's Switching Gears, a Contemporary, LGBT, racing, M/M book available now from Resplendence Publishing. Megan will be awarding a Bracelet/earring set - handmade in team colors of black and red, to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. I will also post links to the participating blogs to increase your chances of winning. Please leave your e-mail address when you comment.

When she's not writing the stories in her head, Megan Slayer can be found luxuriating in her hot tub with her two vampire Cabana boys, Luke and Jeremy. She has the tendency to run a tad too far with her muse, so she has to hide in the head of her alter ego, but the boys don't seem to mind.

When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school. She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best. The cabana boys are willing to serve, unless she needs them. She always need them. So be nice to Javier or he will bite--on command.

She also masquerades under the name Wendi Zwaduk and is published through Changeling Press, Decadent Publishing, Liquid Silver Books, MLR Press, Resplendence Publishing, and Total-E-Bound Publishing.

Blurb for Switching Gears

Ethan’s about to meet his match in the last person he ever expected.

Ethan Long is a man on a mission—finish well and he gets to keep his ride at Flash Racing. Continue to crash and his racing days will be numbered. Other than being behind the wheel of a race vehicle, this good looking hot shot hasn’t got the first clue how to harness his ego or his talent. Until he locks gazes with Royce. Then all bets are off.

Royce Darden doesn’t play around. His no-nonsense attitude propelled him to the head of the merchandise sales at Flash. He’s good with numbers and facts…and a crop. Few people know about his wilder side and what he needs in bed. He sees the inner submissive in Ethan screaming for a turn. Can Royce convince the young driver that switching gears could be the key to his racing future?

Excerpt from Switching Gears

“Royce?”

“You’re only hot shit until the next wonder kid comes along. Prove why you’ve got staying power so Collin will have to keep you around.” Royce gasped for breath. Few people worked him up to the point of yelling. Ethan had made the short list. Royce shoved both hands into his hair. “Maybe no one has ever told you no, but I will. Stop being a shit so you can do what you love.”

Ethan didn’t say anything for the longest time. He stared toward the floor and shuffled his boot-clad feet.

“Thanks,” Ethan mumbled. “Collin told me we needed to hang out more. Said you’d be able to sell my crap better if you got to know me. Sounds like you already do.”

Before Royce could respond, Ethan met his gaze and grinned. “Now, do you want to fuck?”

“You can’t be serious.” So much for the emotional breakthrough Royce had expected.

“I can be, and I am.” The grin widened. Ethan winked then headed to the back of the motor coach. “And you can’t knock a guy for trying. Now, where do we sleep while this sucker’s in motion? Ooh! Bunks. Top one’s mine.”

Royce groaned. Dear Lord, this would be a long ride.

Blurb for Cape Cursed

Bliss Sherman doesn’t believe in curses—that is until she arrives at Cape Destiny, North Carolina.  Bliss comes to the cape determined to make a name for herself and her new firm by accomplishing an incredible engineering feat—moving the Cape Destiny Lighthouse inland before it's swallowed by the Atlantic Ocean.

Bliss, who has struggled with dyslexia, discrimination, and betrayal by her ex-husband and former business partner, Jonathan, faces her greatest challenge when she falls in love with the handsome, mysterious descendant of the lighthouse keepers, Parker Swain, who is vehemently opposed to the lighthouse’s move.

When someone targets Bliss, she begins to wonder if the curse that is rumored to be attached to the lighthouse may be true.  Who is sabotaging her dream?  Who is trying to harm her?  Who wants to kill her?  When all clues point to Parker, she dismisses her suspicions, deciding to trust him and her heart.  But as the evidence mounts against Parker, she begins to doubt not only herself and her heart, but also Parker.

Can she trust her judgment?  Can she trust Parker?   Most importantly, when she is trapped inside the lighthouse with him during a raging hurricane, can she trust Parker with her life?

A romantic suspense with all the seaside moody romance of du Maurier’s Rebecca and the spine-tingling thrills that keep you turning the pages, Cape Cursed casts a spell of sensous deception and seductive danger.  A Category 5 of a romantic suspense novel,Cape Cursed, barrels in packing a surge of suspense that knocks you off your feet and a blistering romance that sweeps you up and carries you away.

Excerpt from Cape Cursed

“Destroyer of your lighthouse?” Bliss cried, shocked that Parker had shifted from Southern gentleman to bully so quickly.  “What are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about your jeopardizing a national treasure.”

Bliss was well aware that some of the residents were opposed to the move, but she didn’t expect to be blamed.  “Look, I came down here to save it,” Bliss said, trying not to further raise his ire.  She wanted this move to go smoothly.  Her career was riding on it, and she didn’t need any more enemies.  Jonathan Lavere was enough.

“What do you know about my lighthouse?” Parker asked, puffing out his chest.

“I know that if it’s not moved, it’ll soon be swallowed up by the sea.”

“I don’t believe that.”

She tossed her hair back.  “Have you checked the beach?  There’s only fifteen feet separating it from the Atlantic.”

He sniffed.  “Checked the beach?  I don’t need to check the beach.  I’ve lived here all my life, and I don’t believe it’s worth risking my lighthouse just because some pinhead in the capitol thinks it should be moved.”

“Well, I’ve seen the studies, and I’m telling you, Mr. Swain, one more hurricane and your beloved lighthouse could be washed out to sea.”

Parker swept his hand toward the direction of the beach.  “I know this place.  No one can predict that ocean.  With the next storm, it could very well add ten feet of new sand to the shoreline.”

Bliss sighed impatiently.  “That’s highly unlikely.”

Parker’s soft brown eyes hardened as he glared at Bliss.  “I believe in the unlikely.  I know the impossible happens.”

Sounds interesting...I need to go shopping again.

Blurb for Room of Tears

Out of tragedies come heroes and miracles…

At 9:59 a.m. on September 11, 2001, Diane O’Connor’s life as a firefighter’s wife changes forever, shattering her faith. Four decades later, a note still hangs on her kitchen cabinet in Queens, the paper yellowed with age. Diane knows the scribbled sentences by heart; she'd left them the morning of 9/11 for her husband, Billy.

In the summer of 2041, Diane invites Friar Antonio Ortiz to her home. He is a man destined to become counsel to the first American pope—her son, Peter. Antonio asks no questions and arrives in secret, promising to wait nineteen years before passing Diane's journal to Peter. Only then will Billy’s story be told, along with answers to Peter’s questions about his father’s last days.

Excerpt from Room of Tears

Absorbed, Antonio neglected to notice that Diane had disappeared into the kitchen. He thought to ask her about the two men in the photographs, and when he turned in anticipation of seeing her next to him, he took a step toward where she might be standing. His right foot struck a pair of boots propped upright against the wall. He stumbled and put a hand out to that empty place where he thought she might be, but his face did not meet hers, and instead came within an inch of a firefighter’s helmet, the medallion of its FDNY ladder company polished and gleaming.

On the edge of that moment, trying to regain his balance, each breath he took tightened in his throat. Antonio began to gag. His mind raced. What could be happening? One minute he was looking at photographs and the next his throat was constricting. An acrid odor rose to his nostrils. He shook his head—the same faint smell he’d noticed from before, at the door, but stronger, sharp enough now to sear his soft membranes. My God, he thought and recoiled. Sweat sprang from his face and neck. A heart attack? He clutched his chest. No, not that. His heart was fine except for the galloping beat under his ribcage. Heat emanated from the helmet as if it had just come through an inferno. “My God,” he said aloud. Perhaps a fire burned inside the wall, hot enough to choke him.

This one has sure caught my attention...I sense a shopping trip in my on line future.

Blurb for Past Regrets

Never look back…unless that’s where your heart belongs.

Love and Friendship, Book 2

Julia Maxwell was a seize-the-moment party girl until the night she spent with up-and-coming rocker Ryan Callander. From that moment, she was a one-man woman. Pity he hasn’t kept with the program.

Tired of the secrets that have kept her out of the press and Ryan’s fans happy, angry with mounting evidence of infidelity, Julia is older, wiser, and determined to divorce his cheatin’ ass.

Ryan’s long European tour had more than its share of hard knocks—one of which landed on his head when he was mugged. Divorce papers waiting for him at home are a shock that fills in some of the holes in his sketchy memory. But it could be too late to salvage his marriage.

If Ryan thinks flirtatious smiles, seductive touches, and hot-and-heavy kisses are going to smooth things over, Julia’s got a hammer with his name on it. To her surprise, he picks it up, determined to rebuild a bright future for both of them. But the past is lurking with some missing pieces that could bring their hearts crashing down.

Warning: Contains a pissed ex-stripper turned burlesque dancer, a bunch of nosy friends and a smooth-talking rocker with one thing on his mind. Stripper poles and skimpy costumes may be involved.

Excerpt from Past Regrets

“You went to your family christening over Anniversary weekend. Julia and I went to Fiji for a four day break and married while we were there.”

“Congratulations.”

“She’s served divorce papers on me,” Ryan said with a snarl, anger warring with the jagged knife slicing into his brain. He loved her, damn it. “I’m not letting her go without a fight.”

Caleb’s grin lit up his face. “And I worried I’d be bored taking a three-month break.” He rubbed his hands together. “This should be fun.”

“There’s nothing funny about a divorce.”

The amusement quit Caleb. “I know that, man, but I know you. Julia won’t stand a chance. She’ll be putty in your hands again in days. I’ll be your wingman.”

Ryan’s hackles rose and his fingers balled to fists. “You won’t be putting your hands on my wife again. That was a one-time thing.”

Caleb raised his hands in surrender, his gaze steady, reassuring, and some of the tension seeped from Ryan. Caleb was his friend, not the enemy.

“Why don’t we go back to the apartment, grab a few hours’ sleep then stake out her place. You can confront her when we run her to ground.”

It was a sensible solution, despite his need for immediate action. He hesitated before admitting to his exhaustion. The damn headache had taken hold, and his skull thumped like the crazy beat of Neil’s drums during a solo spot. “Yeah, okay. Sounds like a plan.”

Down but not out. Julia was his wife. His woman, and soon no one would doubt it, least of all her.

Beauty Bites (How beauty Saved Meiers Corners and Won the Hot Vampire)

I said I would come back with my review of the latest book in the delightful Biting Love series from Mary Hughes. I'm sure by now, everyone knows that I love Meiers Corners and all of the residents, mortal and vampire alike, and this one may just be the best so far. First, I'll whet your appetite for vampire hotness with the blurb from Beauty Bites, then I will post my review. So sit back, relax and suspend belief for a visit with the vampires and the women who love them.

Blurb for Beauty Bites

Beauty is skin deep…but the beast goes all the way.

When top Minneapolis ad man Ric Holiday is asked to design a campaign for a quaint little town, his first reaction is absolutely not. Meiers Corners is too near Chicago, home of the vampire who turned him as an orphaned boy.

Then the city sends an angel-faced med student with a body made for sin to plead their case. Synnove Byornsson is the ray of sunshine Ric hasn’t felt since he was human.

Armed with determination and a micro miniskirt, Synnove is prepared to crash Holiday’s penthouse cocktail party—and to dislike him on sight. But Mr. All-Style-No-Substance turns out to have a deadly smile, a barely restrained, feral strength, and piercing blue eyes that look at her—not at her cleavage.

Unfortunately Synnove has competition in the form of a sly temptress with a counterproposal. For the first time in her life, Synnove must cash in her genetic lottery ticket and fire back with some sizzle of her own—or her beloved Meiers Corners could become the new Sin City.

Warning: Contains a doctor with a bod for sin, an ad exec with a chip on his shoulder, sarcasm, sex, and a cabin full of annoying friends. Secrets are revealed. One heart-stopping, horrific moment leads to the ultimate of happily-ever-afters.

They say Beauty is only skin deep, but if you are a medical student wanting to be taken seriously, beauty can be a pain in the...behind. Synnove Byornsson is sick of everyone focusing on her attributes instead of her intelligence. How can she be taken seriously, when she can't get a single male to focus on anything above her shoulders. So when her cousin Twyla asks her to cash in on Nature's gifts to convince ad-man Ric Holiday to build a campaign for their home town, Meiers Corners, she balks at first. When she finally agrees, she discovers there is competition, in the form of one slinky female determined to turn Meiers Corners into the next Las Vegas. And Synnove has begun to believe some of the citizens of her home town are something other than wholly human; more like vampires actually, but when she tries to ask her friends and relatives, they keep changing the subject. Can Synnove convince Ric to take on the cause, or will the town lose its innate charm to the glitz and decadence that the other side wants to bring in? And can Ric come to terms with the fact that this lovely woman is both smart and sexy, and his true One as well?

This is book six in the Biting Love series, and while it involves Meiers Corners, it doesn't actually take place there. As with all of Ms. Hughes' Biting Love books, there is a great deal of humor mixed in with the romance. I look forward to each of these as they arrive, knowing I am in for a treat, and this one may have been the best so far. The lead characters, Synnove and Ric, are both charismatic and likable, an I adore Synnove's quirky habit to med-speak when she is flustered or frustrated. And her ability to roll with the flow is delightful...she is determined to break through the 'wall of silence' about vampires that her friends and family have erected, and she does it, not with finesse, but with the help of a verbal sledgehammer.

I loved Ric, with his secrets and his determination to stay out of it, until the stakes (pardon the pun, please) are raised and he discovers a chicken, or rather a snake in his corporate hen-house. I love the nicknames Synnove comes up with for the bad guys, especially 'Chicken Little', the traitor in Ric's office who tries to undermine Synnove at every turn. Then there is Camille, Nosferatu's lieutenant, who wants to turn Meiers Corners into a midwest Sin City, with Ric's help, who Synnove prompty dubs Vampiretta.

There are dangers to face, secrets to reveal, and under it all is the magnetic attraction between Ric and Synnove that refuses to be denied. I loved when Synnove just came right out and asked Twyla about vampires, or as she says, v-men. I spent much of this book clenching a tissue to stem the flow of tears from the laughter, and fanning myself from the heat raised by Synnove and Ric. This one is super hot, funny and delicious and I recommend it to all who like their romance Type O with a side of hot and sexy.
