Kept An Anthology

Kept

Today's post is a tour for the anthology Kept, a collection of  six capture themed novellas from six best selling authors. There will be lots of hot excerpts, and the grand prize for this tour will be one book from each of the anthology authors. This is a Rafflecopter contest, so sit back, enjoy the excerpts and fill in the Rafflecopter for your chance to win.

Blurb for Kept

From the darkest parts of the underworld, to aliens hunting on Earth, to planets far away, each of these capture-themed novellas by six bestselling authors takes you on a wild ride that will heat up your fantasies and keep you up all night long…reading.

From Holly S. Roberts - Can Sergeant Kelly Myers sacrifice her blood and body to a vampire to save her country or is Talon worse than the evil trying to kill them all?

From Angela Castle -  Can alien King K’marr convince Ash they are Soul Bonds or will she let him succumb to the abyss of madness?

From Cari Silverwood’s new Preyfinder series - A Preyfinder is trained to withstand hardship and pain, and Jadd would rather kneel before a firestorm than leave his captive, Brittany, to be stalked and killed.

From Sorcha Black - Lying tangled in her sheets each night, dreaming of sex, virginal Shiloh never means to tempt the spying succubus.

From C.L. Scholey - Two hot aliens take the form of friends and spirit Cali away aboard their alien vessel.

From Leia Shaw - After accidentally turning off a device that could destroy earth, Maggie is abducted by a man with an accent as sexy as his looks and taken to Scotland to fix the device.

Explicit excerpt from Kept: Precious Sacrifice by Cari Silverwood

He walked into view at the other end of the row of parked cars, blocking out the taxi waiting for her with its engine idling, and he turned and headed toward her. Long dark coat. Mean look in his eyes...or where his eyes would be. His face was shrouded in darkness. He just looked bad.

Brittany’s throat closed in. Breathing, who needed it?

Big man, as in fucking huge, and with a totally deliberate way of moving.

Every step was calculated. Like a lone stranger walking into a lowlife Wild West town, about to rescue the folks from the two-gun killer kid. She could hear the theme song from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly playing.
All he was missing was a Stetson and a pair of six guns.

Headlights from a passing car flickered over him. His face...oh god. He definitely needed a hat to pull over that. Were those parallel scars running across his cheeks? Or tattoos made up to look like American Indian war paint? Whatever. They were red and scary. Only he surpassed scary by a mile. She took a half-step back, surprised the man wasn’t snorting steam out his nostrils.

But he smelled good. From yards away. Was that even possible? Mm-Mmm.

It took all her determination not to squeal, run down the aisle between the parked cars, and jump his bones then and there. Loose stones on the concrete cracked under his boots. A breeze blew the front of his coat wide. She caught a glimpse of a wide, well-built torso that stretched his pants and shirt with a real man’s body.

Shit. Was that metal glinting there? Holsters? No. Couldn’t be. Unless he was a cop?

Fear reared its head. He wouldn’t be looking for her. Get the fuck outta his way.

Jarred into self-preservation mode, Brittany cleared her throat and squeezed back against the bus she was walking beside to allow him to shimmy past. Not that a man like this would ever shimmy. He’d saunter or stalk but never ever shimmy.

What would it be like to be underneath him being...

Shut up. She took a deep breath and held it when he seemed about to pass her.

Don’t faint. Unladylike.

Then he grabbed her under her shoulders, lifted her a few inches, and slammed her flat against the bus with enough force to frighten her but not hurt. Startled, she sucked in air.

His scent swept her awareness of danger far, far away and replaced it with pure unadulterated LUST.

Her pussy flooded instantly. She shut her eyes. Not Niagara Falls wet, just enough to make slippery every part of her down there, enough that a man could slide his cock right in without a second’s hesitation. That. Wet.
She inched open her eyes and found him staring down at her. Brutal and callous was her instantaneous impression.

From Succumb by Sorcha Black. A story of a succubus called Moth
“Who are you?” Her voice was small, her brows puckered.
“I am called Moth.” I was over her dream self, my lips almost on hers. The girl’s large dark eyes narrowed in confusion and she squirmed beneath me.
“What do you want?” She whimpered and the sound made me ache to ease her.
“I want what you want, Shiloh,” I whispered to her. “May I bring you pleasure?”
Although I’d waited until the phantom man had aroused her terribly, there was consternation in her eyes.
“But I don’t like women that way. How do you know my name?”
Because I watch you when you sleep. I walk in your dreams. Telling her this would serve no purpose, although it was true. Often, her dreams were sexual, but at times they were reflections of what she had done that day. Some nights she dreamed of a man called Brad, but their relationship had no relation to sex. Their interactions amused me, though, and I was glad that someone filled the space in her life just as Fox my own. Her dreams were filled with concern for others and worry over tasks she’d left undone. The brightness and intelligence of her thoughts were fascinating and I watched her dreams by the hour some nights.
But only through the window. I had never before crossed the threshold.
I brushed my lips against hers and she gasped, the feeling from me more intense than any a dream lover could provide. So close. Her lips under mine were almost too tempting to bear. I could taste the desire upon her breath and had to ignore the instinct to feed.
“You brought me here.” Although it had been unintentional, on her part. “If you close your eyes, you can pretend I am whomever you desire. The secret will be ours.”
When no response was forthcoming, I trailed my fingertips over the spectre of her translucent dream body and her eyes fell shut. Permission?
Men rarely refused me anything in their dreams.
In fascination, my fingers bumped over her ribs, upward to her breasts. She shuddered beneath me and the urge to fasten my mouth down on hers became overwhelming. I cupped her breast with one hand and lowered myself to lay alongside her, our naked flesh sliding together in a way even dream men did not feel. Smooth. Warm. How did a dream girl smell so erotic?
I toyed with her nipples for an age, circling and pinching them until she was a mewling, writhing doll.
“What do you desire?”
“Please!” she begged.
I drew my hand down, toward her sex. Her hips rose to meet me, attempting to rush me to what she wanted.
“Do you want me to touch you here?” I circled a lazy finger over her slit.
“Please, please, yes!” She sobbed, and for a moment I almost pitied her. Her arousal was more intense than most humans felt and I wondered if it was the fact that she was virginal, or that she was more attracted to the female form than she realized.
A stirring.
Warder.
My lips fastened over hers for the barest moment and the taste of her flooded my mouth. Although I had no hunger, the sexual power lanced down into my belly, spreading warmth throughout my body.
“I must go. I will return for you.”
“Please, no! Don’t leave me like this. I’ll die.” In her dream she wept, and guilt flooded through me. To have fed, even a little, and not bring her satisfaction was cruel.

The Emperor's Treaty

Today's post is a Super Blurb Blitz for The Emperor's Treaty, a Fantasy Romance book available now. As a blurb blitz, there will be no interview or guest post, but I will post a brief bio of the author, Chacelyn Pierce, along with a blurb and excerpt. I will also post links to the other stops along the tour, so please leave your e-mail address when you comment. Chacelyn will be awarding a $15 Starbucks GC and free digital copy of The Emperor's Treaty to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

A rocker by heart, Chacelyn Pierce is constantly ear plugged with heavy tunes blaring to stir up the phantom personalities that swarm her mind. It’s no surprise that she enjoys writing and reading to satiate her appetite for the male antagonist in a story. Married to a blatant redhead and mothering a diva, there is never a dull moment in the house. As a native Texan, she doesn't personally own a horse but follows the unwritten southern rule of knowing how to ride one. When she’s not testing the emotional capacity of her characters, she works as a dog groomer.

Blurb for The Emperor's Treaty

The Emperor's Treaty (The Calaeron Duology, #1) Arryn, the newly crowned Emperor of New Phalba, must find a means to strengthen his kingdoms from impending foes. To end a blood war that has carried over millenniums, he petitions to marry one of his race’s mortal enemy—the Moekan dragons’ crowned princess. Even though the bond with the Moekan dragons will aid against a looming attack on his empire, Arryn can’t help his attraction to the dragon princess Shann living in his palace.

Eager to make the best of her situation and please her new husband, Shann is willing to face the challenges of a dragon ruling the Fae Empire. Winning his trust proves to be a tougher challenge with odds stacked against her. Will the lies about her cause Arryn to break the new peace treaty? And can she stop him from starting a war that will change everyone's future?

Excerpt from The Emperor's Treaty

Arryn tilted his head back in fatigue, he'd been slaying the mammoth dragons night and day, and he hated it. But no prince ever sat aside for battle. It was tradition for him to participate in skirmishes that would be renowned through the ages. Nevertheless, glory left him barely able to stand on two feet. All for blood and exaltation; no time to frown or complain about the lack of rest. His father's words echoed though his exhausted mind and filled him with enough strength to finish the task at hand.

He gazed up at the dreary sky, noting the stirring winter firmaments. The soft morning light peered over the Jertan city ruins, casting a somber glow on a once-mystical place. It would seem beautiful, if not for the chaos and bloodshed that had befallen the crumbling silver spires of the ancient Jertan castle.

The mourning cries and pleas of fallen Phalban soldiers resonated through the gorge. The ditch his men had dug around the cloister became a pit of pain. The injured were carried there to seek aid, but he was certain it would be filled in with dirt and marked as a mass grave before sunset. He glanced around, looking for some shred of peace or happiness in the madness. His father spoke of war as if it were a prized stag on a wall of gold. He did not see it as such. No matter how many times he willed his mind to focus on something else, it was always brought back to the horrific battlefield. Broken bodies of his kin were scattered around like debris. Many pleaded for their brothers to end their misery and give last testaments to their family. It was heart-wrenching…and unnecessary.

Excerpt from Knockout!

From Chapter 1 – A chance encounter in the rain.

At the entrance to the tube station there was a growing crowd. The lattice shutters were being closed while an harassed official explained that there was a wild-cat strike. She turned away. Ahead of her lay a nightmare journey by bus to her empty flat in Kilburn. Suddenly the cold politics of the meeting, the gray loneliness of the street, the crowds of uncaring strangers, filled her with a longing for warmth and intimacy. The break from her lover, police Commander Beaumont Locke had seemed clean but had left a jagged gap of loneliness - like an exit wound. A gap where another rainy evening briefly played over and over again in her mind.

She stood on the edge of the pavement. Perhaps she could get a taxi - but with a tube strike there was small chance of that! Several black cabs beetled along, already filled. She kept her hand raised and as if by magic she saw the amber “For Hire” light of a London taxi pulling in at her side. She felt a movement from behind and heard an accented male voice:

“Zee ‘eelton ‘otel, Park Lane.”

She turned to see a tall rock of a man, moving past her into the taxi. This guy was going to have to back off. She grabbed the door. Even as she did so she saw his deep brown eyes, the dark eyebrows, one of which only partly disguised a long scar. She could never explain - even to herself - why in that instant she wanted to touch it and know how it had been caused. Her heart raced with indignation and a sense of excitement she had never expected to feel again…not since… well, just not since everything.

Blurb for Banished Love

Free-Spirited…

Radical…

Determined…

When love blossoms between Clarissa and Gabriel McLeod, a struggling cabinetmaker, her family objects. Clarissa’s love and determination will be tested as she faces class prejudices, manipulative family members and social convention in order to live the life she desires with the man she loves.

Will she succeed? Or will she yield to expectations?

BANISHED LOVE follows Clarissa Sullivan on her journey of self-discovery as she learns what she cannot live without.

Excerpt from Banished Love

“You’ve known my beliefs for some time,” I croaked out.

“A schoolgirl’s idealism,” she snapped. “Nothing to be acted on.”

Mrs. Chickering cleared her throat, as though to remind Mrs. Smythe she remained present. “I think it takes a tremendous strength of character to have beliefs and then actually act on them,” she said with her own fervor. “I would hate for women to lock away their desires for a better world once they leave school or marry. They, as women, have lives, have hopes and dreams for the future, independent of what a man might want.”

“How dare you come into my house and tell me that what I have is not sufficient?” Mrs. Smythe gasped.

“I am saying no such thing, Mrs. Sullivan,” Mrs. Chickering replied. “I believe you need to understand that your stepdaughter has beliefs and aspirations that are different from yours.”

“Aspirations that include the vote?” Mrs. Smythe scoffed. “Men have voted in the past, they will continue to vote, and I have no desire of it. I feel as my husband does on all things to do with politics, so it would only be giving the same politician two votes rather than one. There’s no purpose to women having the vote.” Her eyes flashed, true enmity in their depths as she glared at Mrs. Chickering. “And didn’t we women of Massachusetts show you suffragettes we didn’t want the vote in’95? No one voted for women to become enfranchised then, and they won’t now.” She sighed loudly, as though trying to calm herself.

“An aspiration for independence?” Mrs. Smythe continued, unable to stop speaking. “Are you telling me that someday it should be lauded, hoped for, that young women become independent and have no need for marriage? No need for children? How could that ever be a hoped-for future? You and your group want too much for women. Women should focus on their home, on creating a moral, upstanding environment in which to raise children. She will want for nothing if she has such a home,” Mrs. Smythe argued.

“So I suppose women should remain tied to the kitchen stove with children at their ankles, and a husband who might, or might not, come home with a paycheck as their only recourse?” Mrs. Chickering countered. “Relying on the benevolence of men to write laws and enforce them without women having any involvement in the legislative process? Sitting at home knitting, hoping that men will ensure that our rights are protected? That is all you envision for women? Nothing more?”

“It has been enough for generations. I do not know why it should need to change now,” Mrs. Smythe snapped, banging down her teacup with such force I thought she might crack it.

“Was that enough for you in your first marriage, Mrs. Sullivan?” Mrs. Chickering asked, pinning her with an intense gaze.
